Kendra Whittle

Kendra Whittle joined the 14 News team in November 2010 as a multi-media journalist. You can catch her reporting through the first half of the week, and is a proud member of the 14 News Team Weekend.

Kendra always wanted to be some kind of writer. But the spark really hit when she was 14, when she and her sistermade a mock newscast called "SWNE TV". Her dad watched it that night and mentioned, "You know, you would be really good at something like that."

The reporting bug stayed with Kendra through college at Illinois State University (go Redbirds!), where she earned by Bachelor's in Broadcast Journalism. While at ISU, she was active in the university's daily live newscast TV-10, serving as an anchor, reporter, photographer, and sportscaster. She also took part in the award winning community events show "TC 24/7" as a reporter and host.

After graduating, She went on to WEEK/WHOI-TV in East Peoria, Illinois as a part time producer and reporter. She was there during one of the bloodiest summers in Peoria history - and had the eye opening experience of speaking with several families whose loved ones had been murdered - including the mother of a pregnant teenager who was killed.

Being from the plains of Illinois, Kendra has enjoyed learning about life in the Ohio River Valley. She especially has learned a lot from the flooding situation over spring and summer of 2010 - it really gave the phrase "wacky weather" a whole new meaning to her!

When Kendra is not at work, she enjoys working out, cooking, and reading. She finished her first full triathlon in August 2011, which she loved and plans to do again. She also likes to write (FICTION!) stories during her free time - and one of her lifetime dreams is to some day write a book.

Kendra married her college sweetheart Stephen on July 30th, 2011 - which is why her name suddenly changed on air! After five years of long distance dating - she loves spending time with him.

Kendra truly loves her job, and loves hearing from viewers. If you have an idea, please feel free to email her at kwhittle@14news.com, or post it on her Facebook page.
