UNION CO, KY (WFIE) - An arrest was made on Tuesday in the murder of a Union County man, and 14 News learned the person behind bars, is the victims best friend.
The sheriff's office, along with Kentucky State Police say 22-year-old Timothy C. Devine of Waverly is charged with the murder of 23-year-old Michael Wolfe who worked for the city of Morganfield.
Relatives of Michael Wolfe say just days after the murder, Devine was a pall bearer at Wolfe's funeral.
It's that closeness between the two friends, that has many in shock over Devine's arrest for Wolfe's murder.
Union County Detective Jimmy Lyon says, "I'm very pleased. There's nothing worse than a small community to have a wonder or doubt, that there's someone out there that could kill somebody else."
According to a police report, Devine told authorities he killed Wolfe over a disagreement about money. The report also says he set Wolfe's body on fire to destroy the evidence.
Devine is currently being held at the Union County Jail on a 250-thousand dollar cash bond.
Wolfe's cousin Derek Turner says, "I'm in shock, that is one of the people I wouldn't have thought would do that."
Turner, who lives right next door to Wolfe tells 14 News, the pair would be outside every day working on their four wheelers. Turner says he saw Devine just a few days after Wolfe's funeral.
Turner says, "He was down the road at one of our friends house last Friday, he acted like nothing even happened."
Detectives say it's hard to see a young boy like Devine throw his life away, but he must answer for his mistakes.
Devine will appear in district court on Thursday.
