HENDERSON, KY (WFIE) - Ellis Park Directors say Dollar Days have been a success so far.
They say attendance is up six percent from last year which is pretty good they say for following a big event like the ostrich and camel races that took place on Saturday.
Director of Sales and Marketing Dwight Hawkins says, "It's just back by popular demand, the fan demanding it, attendance was huge and actually it's our biggest day of the year."
With free admission, several horse races, and unbeatable deals, Ellis Park Directors say the park really is geared toward family fun.
Tourist Steve Kerchner says, "Kids enjoy the dollar hotdog's and the dollar ice cream and everything else, we have a good time."
Hawkins says the ostrich and camel races usually draw big crowds and even bringing in tourists. This year over 6,000 people attended the camel and ostrich races.
Hawkins says the decision to extend Dollar Days came after seeing the demand for family activities on the weekends. Many say Ellis Park is a good way to have fun while saving money.
Resident Grace Henning says, "It's a real nice thing to do on a Sunday afternoon, it doesn't cost a lot of money and we live in Henderson so it's not far."
Hawkins also says bringing the whole family is a great way to introduce young children to the horse racing industry.
"The little kids absolutely love to come out and see the horses in the paddock, and watch the horses at the finish line."
Ellis Park Directors say Dollar Days will continue every weekend after seeing such great results.
There are still several family fun dates coming up in August.
