FORDSVILLE, KY (WFIE) - An Ohio County man has been charged with murder after a shooting Tuesday night in Fordsville.

According to Ohio County Sheriff Elvis Doolin, the shooting happened about 7:30 p.m. on Sunnydale Road in Fordsville.

Michael Johnson has been arrested in connection with the death of Charlotte C. Brown. Doolin says Brown was shot in the back by with a 12-gauge shotgun at the home of Johnson's father.

Brown was flown to St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville where she died.

According to records from the Ohio County Sheriff's Department, Michael Johnson had been arrested numerous times on an array of charges from assault to wanton endangerment and several DUIs.

Johnson's family says they are stunned after yesterday's shooting.

Wanda Cameron, the suspect's cousin says, "We're in shock. I mean people say stuff and people say stuff and they make threats, but you never dream in a million years they'd really do it. You just don't think that way. Sane people don't think that way."

The sheriff says 67-year old Charlotte Brown was shot after getting into an argument with her boyfriend's son, Michael Johnson.

Family members say they never thought a murder could happen so close to home.

Cameron says, "This don't happen, especially in a place like this. We're out here in the country and we're all family. This is all family, every house down through here."

The sheriff says Johnson was mixing alcohol and prescription drugs and appeared intoxicated when he was arrested Tuesday night.

Family members say Johnson and Brown didn't always get along, but they never thought an argument could turn into murder.

Cameron says, "She was a good woman. She didn't deserve it. She didn't deserve that at all. It's just not right."

Johnson is at the Ohio County Detention Center Wednesday night and is being charged with murder, wanton endangerment and possession of a controlled substance.

Johnson declined to talk to us for this story.
