SAN FRANCISCO, CA (CNN) - More than one million current and former Walmart employees have been given the all-clear to take the retail giant to court.
A federal appeals court in San Francisco ruled Monday that the class-action lawsuit against Walmart may move forward.
The lawsuit, filed in 2001, is the largest class-action employment lawsuit in U-S history.
It alleges female employees were paid less than male workers doing the same job and were given fewer opportunities for promotion than men. The plaintiffs are seeking back pay and punitive damages.
Walmart responded with a statement saying it "is an excellent place for women to work and fosters female leadership."
