(WFIE) - On Wednesday morning, a Henderson County school bus veered off the side of the road and crashed into a ditch.
Thirteen students were injured, but thankfully, no one was seriously hurt.
It's a frightening scenario for parents everywhere, but in this case, a hero emerged.
The driver, the only adult on the bus, was trapped in her seat by her seatbelt.
That's when 16-year-old Cody Book stepped in.
His first thought: How do I get these kids off the bus?
He opened up the emergency exit in the roof and, one by one, helped the children climb out.
Cody says he doesn't consider himself a hero.
He says he was just in the right place at the right time, but we know better.
Cody is a hero.
Too often we all focus on the wrong things that our teenagers do, and that includes the news media.
This time, we were able to recognize a high school sophomore who did everything right.
Cody, Henderson County and the Tri-State congratulate you for taking a stand and helping out when needed.
