EPD: Jealous woman starts fire

By Jill Lyman - email

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - Evansville Police arrest a woman after they say she was jealous and set a house on fire.

It happened early Wednesday morning. Police say 32-year-old Patricia Hawkins was upset that Roger Hobby was ignoring her phone calls and spending time with another woman.

Officers say Hobby was ignoring Hawkins because she had broken a window earlier in the week during another fight.

Police say Hawkins showed up at the East Chandler Avenue home Wednesday morning and broke the same window she broke before.

Officers say Hobby came outside to confront Hawkins where she threatened him with a piece of glass and a knife before running away.

A little while later, police say Hawkins came back, poured gas in the house, left again, then came back and threw a paper towel that was on fire.

Hobby was able to put out the fire. Hawkins was arrested near the house. Police say she denied setting the fire, but admitted that she would have if she had a lighter.

She is being held without bond and the Vanderburgh County Jail.
