SANTA CLAUS, IN (WFIE) - Christmas just a month away, and children from all over the world haven't wasted any time sending their requests to elves in Santa Claus, Indiana.
Letters come in from Germany, Japan, France, and all over the country. All written by children who want to hear from the "Big Guy."
One letter from West Virginia reads, "Dear Santa, I've tried to be better this year. I've lost my two front teeth. I hope you can bring me the things I want."
Since the 1930's the group called Santa's Elves have been working to assist Santa Claus. But this year they're overwhelmed and in dire need of help.
"This year we have received 14,000 letters electronically which is more than than we received the entire season last year from Thanksgiving to Christmas," said Pat Koch.
This number doesn't even include the boxes and boxes of letters that arrive daily to the Santa Claus museum, not all asking for gifts for themselves.
"You're welcome to get my toys from the basement and give them to some other kid that doesn't have any," says one letter.
One elf says some kids e-mail Santa nowadays.
"We are becoming more of a technology age. Kids are using the computers a lot more so I think we will be seeing more of this type of thing," said Santa Claus Museum curator Sue Hurst.
Regardless they hope that kids will keep coming to Santa with their requests.
"These little kids say what they are thinking from their heart and we sit here and we laugh and we cry and we share and it's a great thing to do," said
