Update: 14 News broke the story Tuesday night and UE made it official Wednesday. The University of Evansville has made it official, new head baseball coach is Wes Carroll.

Wednesday afternoon at Braun Stadium Athletics Director John Stanley formally introduced Wes Carroll as the new UE mens baseball coach.

It's a dream job for Carroll, who has been an assistant for the past two seasons under Dave Seifert.

Carroll, a former Castle and UE standout, now will have a chance to guide the Aces.

"That's been a goal of mine, seeing how much Jim Bronwlee meant to me, and how I looked up to him," Carroll said. "I always hoped someday someone would look up to me the same way, and now I have the opportunity to have 35 young men look up to me as a role model and as a leader."

Stanley said Carroll is just the man for the job.

"I think anybody that spends any amount of time with Wes is just bowled over by his enthusiasm, that is one thing," Stanely said. "We get along together we always have. I am confident he will be a good recruiter and has a wonderful passion for Aces baseball."

Previously: The University of Evansville appears to have their next head baseball coach.

They are staying in house. Our sources close to the program tell 14 News anchor Mike Blake that Wes Carroll, who was an assistant the past two seasons, has been offered the job and will be named the schools next head coach.

Carroll, a Castle High school graduate and former University of Evansville standout, will replace Dave Seifert, who resigned after the season.

Carroll is the younger brother of Jamey Carroll, who plays for the Cleveland Indians.

An official announcement should come soon.
