Update: Aftershocks continue to rattle IL

Update, SAT 12:45pm: Viewers report that aftershocks were felt in Illinois late Friday night and Saturday morning around 11:30 a.m. 

One viewer called to say that her Mt. Carmel home shook so bad that her cabinets opened up.

Update,11:30am: The worst damage so far is a former school in Mt. Carmel that has been converted into apartments. There is substantial damage to the building.

A number of residents were in their apartments when the quake hit, but there are no reported injuries.

The aftershock just after 10am Central Time has been upgraded to 4.6 magnitude.

Update, 10:30am: The USGS is reporting the aftershock that happened just after 10am registered 4.5 on the Richter Scale. You can track the earthquake and aftershocks.

Update, 10:15am: There has just been a significant aftershock from the Friday morning earthquake.

Update, 9:30am CDT: Kentucky transportation officials report no damage to major bridges on the Ohio River.

Transportation Cabinet spokesman Keith Todd says it would take an earthquake of 5.9 magnitude or greater to cause significant damage.

Update, 7:45am: An interesting note about this earthquake. It was 102 years ago Friday, on April 18th, 1906, that a devastating earthquake hit San Francisco, causing widespread damage.

Update, 7:30am Fri: There is some damage, but so far, no reports of serious injuries.

In Mt. Carmel, IL, a canopy fell off a house and blocked the doorway, trapping the people inside for a time.

We have a report of a minor injury in Princeton. A 14 News viewer says her mother sustained a cut on her face when a crystal figurine fell off a shelf.

Update, 7:10am Fri: The earthquake has been downgraded to 5.2 on the Richter Scale.

Update, 7 am Fri: 14 News viewer just reported another after shock in Princeton, IN.

Update, 6:35 am Fri: We have reports of a mobile home knocked off its foundation in Mt. Carmel, IL

Update, 5:30am Fri: There are reports of minor damage in southern Illinois. There are no reports of injuries yet.

Update, 5am Fri: The USGS is reporting the earthquake was 5.4 on the Richter Scale, and centered near West Salem, Illinois.

Earlier: An earthquake shook Tri-Staters out of bed early Friday morning. It happened just after 4:30am Central Time.
