KY Man Crushed By Car Hauler

New Media Producer: Kerry Corum

A terrible accident takes place in front of a car dealership in Paducah, Kentucky.

A driver was crushed to death when he climbed on the first level of the car hauler to get a Jeep. The hydraulics apparently failed, causing the trailer to collapse on him.

The victim has been identified as 45-year-old Douglas Hovis of Texas.

A man walking by saw the trapped victim and called 911. Mikel Hays says, "You've got a 40,000 pounds of weight on top of another two tons of iron and steel, and when the hydraulics give out, there's no amount of people that can lift that off of a man."

The coroner listed the cause of death as mechanical asphyxiation.
