Body of missing swimmer found

VANDERBURGH CO., IN (WFIE) - Search and rescue crews have found the body of a man who went swimming near Dogtown boat ramp in Vanderburgh County overnight.

The Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office says 48-year-old Rodney Masterson of Evansville was at a campfire with his two brothers when decided to swim to an island just west of their location near Dogtown.

Masterson was about 50 yards from the Indiana shoreline when his brothers lost sight of him.  After a short search, they notified Central Dispatch at about 1:35 a.m.

His body was found late Friday morning.

Along with the sheriff's office and Perry Township, crews from Marrs Township fire department searched  the river using sonar boats.  The U.S. Coast Guard, Indiana Conservation Officers, Kentucky officials and barge traffic were also assisting with the search.
