Woman struck by stray bullet while driving on Diamond Ave.

VANDERBURGH CO, IN (WFIE) - Vanderburgh County authorities are investigating a strange shooting after a bullet struck a woman in her moving car.

It happened around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday on Diamond Avenue/Highway 66.

The Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office tells 14 News a woman driving westbound  near Detroy was shot by a stray bullet. Authorities say there's a bullet hole in the windshield.

Another driver stopped to help and called 911.

The woman was responsive when help arrived and was taken to a nearby hospital.

The Vanderburgh Country Sheriff's Office collected evidence from the woman's vehicle and searched the wooded area nearby.

A spokesman for the sheriff's office says the unidentified woman's condition was non-life threatening.
