    Gaston County Sheriff Alan Cloninger delivered a message to the community at the beginning of Tuesday night’s meeting of the Gaston County Commissioners. The message came in response to what happened Sunday afternoon in Bessemer City. One of Cloninger’s deputies, Katelyn Self, was killed when a car driven by her father plowed into the Surf and Turf Lodge. The deputy’s brother, Gaston County Police officer Josh Self, was seriously injured in the incident.

    Mecklenburg County Manager Dena Diorio released her proposed $1.7 billion budget Tuesday morning before a packed chamber. It is $25 million more than last year’s budget.  It also includes a property tax increase of three-fourths of a cent. This means for a single family home worth $250,000, a homeowner will pay $18.75 more a year or $1.50 more a month.

    Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is searching for a missing 9-year-old. Police say Antoine Taylor was last seen in the area of the 2700 block of South Boulevard. Taylor is described as a black male, approximately 50 pounds, 4' 5" tall with a low haircut. He was last seen wearing glasses, a navy collared shirt, khaki pants and gray new balance sneakers with a white stripe.

    Rescue teams continue searching the rough waters below the Elk River Falls in Avery county for a man who slipped off a rock Sunday. The victim is from Ohio, said authorities, and had stopped by to see the falls after attending a wedding in Asheville. He has not been identified yet. Witnesses said he was sitting on a ledge that leaned into the water below the falls and slipped into the water.

Upon arrival officers spoke with people inside the home who said they observed a male holding a shotgun in the driveway threatening to kill to individuals, a report stated.

    Five days away from the 102nd running of the Indianapolis 500, Team Penske drivers Josef Newgarden and Simon Pagenaud stopped by WBTV to talk about what they need to do to pick up their first win at the event. Pagenaud won the IndyCar Series Championship in 2016, while Newgarden captured the title in 2017. However, the drivers say the Indy 500 is much harder to win because you only have one crack at it.
