Regional flooding - 14 News, WFIE, Evansville, Henderson, Owensboro
There has been a fourth breach in the Black River Levee near Qulin. It happened along County Road 202 Wednesday morning.
The National Weather Service reports a rain wrapped funnel cloud near Doniphan and a funnel cloud spotted in Poplar Bluff. Missouri Gov. Nixon activated the Missouri National Guard. Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn issued a disaster proclamation. Mandatory evacuations are underway in Butler and Mississippi counties.
The flooding danger in Poplar Bluff along the Black River continues to be a high risk. The levee has been breeched in several areas.
All the rainfall has left parts of the Metro underwater. Monday, Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer said city workers are on the streets around the clock to make sure culverts and drainage ditches are clear.
UPDATE: According to the Army Corps of Engineers (ACE), Norfork Lake was at 562.8 feet Monday morning and rising, with 34 percent of flood storage capacity in use. ACE says the lake can handle up to 5 more inches of runoff.
The Ohio River crested earlier than expected on Monday afternoon, at 55.02 feet.
Firefighters in Harrods Creek faced a tough challenge Monday when they were called to rescue a man and his son from a flooded home in the Transylvania Beach area. The father, a wheelchair-bound double amputee, was trying to wait out the flood waters with his son when power was shut off.
Heavy rains from recent storms has caused flooding across the Heartland and more concern for additional flooding as more rain is in the forecast.
The Corps of Engineers is keeping a close eye on levees in Illinois and Missouri as major flooding is forecast for several towns south of St. Louis.
