October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month - Calendar of Events

October 4 thru October 9 - Fall Festival Booth
Come and support Albion Fellows Bacon Center by purchasing food from our Fall Festival Booth #65 located in the first block past St. Joseph Ave.  Enjoy Texas Tenderloins, Monte Cristos, Turtles on a Stick, and Buckeyes.

October 4 at 1:15 p.m. -   Balloon Launch & Proclamation
Evansville Mayor Jonathon Weinzapfel will proclaim October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month at the Fall Festival on the Main Stage.  Balloons will be launched to visually demonstrate the number of domestic violence related deaths in Indiana.

October 6th - Health Cares About Domestic Violence Day
This day is created to help raise awareness to the medical community about domestic violence, which is the number one cause of injury for women, higher than rape and automobile accidents combined.  Contact AFBC for pamphlets, tear-aways or to inquire about training available to your staff.

October 9 at 6:30 p.m. - Fall Festival Float
Watch for Albion Fellows Bacon Center’s Float in the Fall Festival Parade.  USI’s Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity helped design and decorate Albion’s Float, which in 2009 won the Community Spirit Award.

October 16 from 11-1 p.m. - Sticking Together Against Violence at cMOE
Bring your children to cMOE so they can decorate a piece of art to support peace for all families in our community.  This activity is great for children of all ages.

TBD - “Telling Amy’s Story” Documentary at USI
The University of Southern Indiana MAARV group will host a viewing of the video documentary about the impact of domestic violence on communities.  The video is titled “Telling Amy’s Story”.

October 21 from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. -   Flowers on the Lake at the State Hospital’s Lake
The UE Women’s Awareness Group and AFBC partner to present the 2nd Annual “Flowers on the Lake” march and speak out.  This event honors the memory of victims of violence in our state and will start at the circle on UE’s campus at 5:30.  Participants will march to the State Hospital Park down Lincoln Ave.  A domestic violence survivor will speak out and participants will have the opportunity to toss flowers into the lake in memory of any victims or survivors of violence.

We have purple ribbons available to hang at businesses or lapel pins to distribute as a show of support in our efforts to end violence in our area.  Contact Albion Fellows Bacon Center at 812-422-9372 if your organization would like to participate.
