New information  on an Evansville murder. The family of the victim speaks out to 14 News, just moments after the victim's body is identified.

Vanderburgh County Coroner Annie Groves says Jochum was stabbed, beaten, and suffered a spinal cord laceration. A brutal death that Jochum's family is struggling to accept.

"I just, I don't understand why somebody would do that."

Micheal Lehman is Jochum's uncle. He says Anna was born with health problems and had to be incubated to stay alive, calling her a million dollar baby.

"When she was born, she wasn't suppose to be here. The whole family would just, like, gather around her and try to protect her. You know? She was like the special kid of the family," Lehman said.

Anna's boyfriend, Robert Hicks, has been charged with her murder. Jochum's family members say her relationship with Hicks was abusive and they tried to warn her this could happen.

"The whole family, her dad, her mom, everybody tried to get her to stay away from him. I wish people remember Anna, that knew her, just remember her smile and her laughter. And, I mean, she was something else. She was one of a kind, I'm telling you."

No word yet on when Hicks is due in court, but we will update this story as we learn further details.
