The man accused of killing a Henderson woman makes his first court appearance.
Demetrius Compton was arrested in Florida and brought to Henderson Friday night. He is charged with the murder of 21-year-old Brystal Chambers, the young mother found dead in her Henderson apartment last June.
43-year-old Demetrius Compton pled not guilty Tuesday to murder and first degree persistent felony offender charges.
U.S. Marshals arrested Compton in Florida over a week ago. Henderson Police say Chambers' cause of death was strangulation. According to Compton's arrest warrant, Chambers, who lived with Compton and their son, was romantically involved with another man. The warrant also states family members reported Compton being physically abusive to Chambers in the past, and that Compton said, "If Brystal comes home tonight, something bad is going to happen to her," near the time of her death.
Compton is now in Henderson County Detention Center on a $100,000 full cash bond. Court officials say he'll be back in court for a plea date on August 20, and depending on the plea, a trial could start on August 22.
