LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Not just Hollywood, but Louisville, too, is buzzing about The Hunger Games movie.

The star of the show, Academy award nominee Jennifer Lawrence, is from Derby City.

The film, based on the wildly popular book series, debuted at midnight Friday, but Lawrence's family got to see the movie a few hours earlier.

A special screening was held Thursday night for Lawrence's Louisville family members, including her parents and brothers, at Tinseltown off Westport Road.

"We're as a whole, as a family, really excited because most of us read the books and really loved the books," said Lawrence's cousin Sarah Eisenmenger, "so seeing her embody the character of those books is going to be really fun to watch on the screen."

Eisenmenger added, "We've seen her in different things like X-men and Winter's Bone, stuff like that. I think it's more seeing her on E! News that's a shock than seeing her do well in a movie."

Eisenmenger said she always knew Jennifer was a talented actress. "But she moved away when she was younger and did a few Burger King commercials and happened to hit it big when a lot of people don't get a chance to do that," Eisenmenger said.

Lawrence got her first break at the age of 14 when she was featured in promos for MTV's My Super Sweet 16.
