VANDERBURGH, CO., IN (WFIE) - Early voting started Monday in Indiana and some counties report a slow start, but not Vanderburgh County.

There's been a lot of candidates working the crowd at the fall festival.

The fall festival is not only a place for people to eat, but also to campaign.

With a few weeks until the election candidates are at the fall festival on west Franklin St. asking for people's vote and reminding them to vote.

So far nearly 2500 people in the county have already voted.

Vanderburgh County Clerk Susan Kirk says that 2500 hundred includes almost 200 voters that have stopped by the election office since Monday as well as absentee ballots, and the travel board.

Clerk says she is surprised to the see the number increase from the 2006 election and has had to hire two more people to work in the election office.

Susan Kirk, Vanderburgh County Clerk days, "You have some people who work for both parties and like I said they're very involved and they get out and door to door so forth and so on and I think that's attributed to some of it. Most of it I think are voters are simply just more interested this time in voting."

The deadline to register to vote expired earlier this week.

Early voting in five different library locations in Vanderburgh County starts Monday.
