EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - In a money-saving move, the city of Evansville will take over the maintenance on four buildings currently managed by SMG.

The Evansville Vanderburgh County Building Authority will be responsible for the upkeep of Roberts Stadium, the C.K. Newsome Center, the Victory Theatre and Mesker Amphitheatre.

Instead of an 11 member team, seven workers will do the job now, which Mayor Weinzapfel said will translate into savings for the city.

"That made a lot of sense to us as we continued to look for ways to be more effective and efficient and we believe at a minimum we should be able to save a little more than $300,000 but it will really be quite a bit more than that," Mayor Weinzapfel said.

Mayor Weinzapfel said the building authority is expected to take over those maintenance duties April 1.
