OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) - Madalynn Matlock, 13, was at Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville for nearly four days before her death.
To help pay those expenses, students at College View Middle School are selling pink bracelets to help the Matlock family pay for the medical bills.
Madalynn was struck by a truck off Old Highway 54 in Philpot on Saturday.
Local businesses are also stepping in offering a $3,500 reward to help find Madalynn's killer.
"We've had an outpouring of care and concern for her family," said Jennifer Crumes, College View Middle School principal. "It's been a tragedy and we've all been affected."
Madalynn's friends and classmates will start selling pink bracelets on Monday.
"We'll have bracelets that say 'Remembering Madalynn'," said Crumes. "This is kind of a two-part purpose: we want to help our students and this is a way for them to remember her as well as to help the family."
Meanwhile investigators are now starting to pass out flyers hoping to find the hit and run driver that killed Madalynn.
"What we're attempting to do," said Lt. Col. Jeff Jones, Daviess County Sheriff's Department. "With the flyer, (is) distribute it to businesses and basically anywhere we can get the message out."
A picture of what the truck involved in the hit and run could look like are on the flyer.
"Sometimes when you say a full-sized Ford Bronco, if people aren't familiar with it they may not realize what it looks like," Jones said.
The Sheriff's Department doesn't want the public to be afraid to give investigators information.
"We're not going to go out SWAT-style and kick in doors based on someone calling in saying such and such has a vehicle matching the description," he said. "That's where the investigation side of it will come into play."
