OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) - Brock Antonio Hanley made his first appearance in person in court Monday afternoon.
A judge ruled there is probable cause Hanley was involved in last week's murder of convenience store clerk Suba Singh.
After Hanley's court appearance, his father told 14 News it was difficult to see his son face murder charges.
"Just being here today and to see him again, it's just a trying time, not only for us but for our family too," Antoine Hanley, father of Brock Hanley said. "It's just a difficult time but we all know and my family knows we lift our son up in prayer as well as the family that's been victimized."
Since Hanley is facing capital charges, he was denied bond and now his case will go in front of a grand jury in two weeks.
Hanley's father said he was with Brock the week before the murder and never expected this from his son.
"This is a terrible shock to us," he said. "When you're with your kids or you're with your son or daughter, and you're enjoying that company, you don't expect to get a phone call and for something like this to happen. It's very trying."
Hanley's father said he's only spoken to his son briefly since he was arrested a week ago.
"He's sorry," he said. "He really is truly sorry. It's just something you can't take back, he can't take back, I can't take back and it's something we're all going to have to grieve through for our family as well as the victim's family."
