EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - There was a surprise presentation this morning for a Memorial High School student.

Senior William Sievern has been named one of 12 finalists for the 2009 Wendy's High School Heisman Award.

Sievern was against 50,000 applicants and will now get to go to New York City in December to participate in the nationally televised Heisman Weekend.

The Heisman Award honors students' hard work on, and off the field.

"I don't know if you could see it on my face but I was pretty taken aback. It was an amazing thing," Sievern said.

Will said it started with the discipline of piano lessons.

From there he went on to participate in dozens of activities while maintaining a 3.9 GPA.

The awards ceremony is set for December 12 on ESPN2.

Memorial will also get a $2,000 donation which will likely go into a scholarship fund.
