Chuck George fell in love with meteorology at a very young age.
He grew up in Tulsa, Okla. When he was 3 years old, he saw a tornado cross the back pasture of his family home. From that moment, he was hooked. Chuck took a nap each evening so he could stay up to watch the 10 p.m. local weathercasts of his idols: Don Woods and Gary Shore. He loved their explanations of the science behind the forecasts. And he follows their example today.
Chuck George joined KOLD News 13 in February 2003 and forecasts the weather for the 4, 5, 6, and 10 p.m. newscasts Monday through Friday.
A self proclaimed perpetual student, Chuck wants to be the first to learn the most recent research in earth science. He loves to take the data and findings of the UA campus experts and incorporate them into his weathercasts and lectures.
Chuck went to the University of Oklahoma where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology. He then worked for the National Severe Storms Lab where he studied severe weather and chased tornadoes with the world's best severe-weather scientists.
Chuck moved to Tucson where he studied Hydrology and Engineering in graduate school at the University of Arizona. He earned a Master of Engineering in Water Resources. He then became a senior hydrologist at Pima County Flood Control.
Chuck's television career began at KPHO in Phoenix, where he was the weekend meteorologist. His next big career move was to Houston as the morning meteorologist at KPRC.
Chuck holds the Mark Twain Associated Press Television and Radio Association's Best Weathercaster in the West award. He holds the Star Award from the American Women in Radio and Television, is a two time Emmy nominee, and has been named best television meteorologist of the year by Tucson Lifestyle Magazine and the Tucson Weekly. Chuck also earned a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist Seal of Approval from the American Meteorological Society.
Chuck is a two-time Houston Press Club Television Meteorologist of the Year. He and the First Alert team received an Edward R. Murrow award for the post-Monsoon special "Monsoon Stories."
He is an adjunct faculty member at Pima Community College, where he started the Archimedes Scholarship Fund to encourage students to explore science and engineering careers. Chuck's entire Pima Community College salary goes to the fund as seed money. He hopes this will grow into a self-sustaining fund to provide scholarships to students who fall in the gap between those who receive financial aid and those who can afford college on their own.
