EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - Police chase a man through three counties Sunday night, and the suspect still hasn't been found.
It started around 9:45 near Riverside Drive and U.S. 41 in Evansville.
It was supposed to be a routine traffic stop. Police say the suspect, 30-year-old Chad Curtis, was driving his girlfriend's red probe, and the car was displaying blue lights improperly.
"It failed to stop. Vanderburgh County got in pursuit," said Spencer County Chief Deputy Jim McDermon.
From there, police say he sped through Warrick County, and into Spencer County and ended when he hit a parked truck.
Authorities say Curtis then ran from the scene.
"They had no idea where the driver was. They had K-9 units close, so they were able to try and track him, but they didn't pick up anything, said Chief Deputy McDermon. They finally gave up."
In the end, five different law enforcement agencies were involved. That requires a lot of communication.
"A lot of the units, depending on how much radio traffic there is may choose to voluntarily listen to other counties they're close to," said Chief Deputy McDermon.
While police will often monitor other jurisdictions, they usually don't have to get involved because chases rarely span three counties.
"It doesn't happen that often, fortunately, but anytime you have a high speed chase there is the potential for danger and people to get hurt," said McDermon.
Police aren't sure why Curtis drove off, but they say he has a history of arrests on drug charges.
