New bus partnership to help students get around town more easily

OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) - A new partnership will help local college students get around the city a little easier.

Soon students from Kentucky Wesleyan College and Owensboro Community and Technical College will have a new way to get around Owensboro, by bus.

The Owensboro Transit System is partnering with OCTC as well as KWC to give current students free bus rides all around town. Students would just need to show a valid student ID to the driver.

The Owensboro trolley will also make additional stops to KWC’s campus on Fridays and Saturdays to and from downtown.

OTS says they’ve seen an increase of about 1,000 riders a week over the last six months and hope this program will allow them to grow even more. They also hopes this opportunity will allow for students to get more involved in the community.

“If we can get the students engaged in the public events and more engaged in the city of Owensboro, maybe after they get their formal education they may decide to stay here,” explains Transit manager, Pamela Canary.

The contracts with OCTC and KWC are still being finalized, but they hope to be done by next week.
