EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - The Dubois County Clerk is urging city officials to make the Jasper town square safer for pedestrians. Clerk Amy Kippenbrock was crossing the square in March when she was struck by a vehicle.
She now wants to use what happened to her, to make change on the square and make things safer for pedestrians.
“My 8-year-old looked at me with tears in his eyes and said mom you could have died," said Kippenbrock. "I was like wow that really hit home for me.”
Kippenbrock was lucky to not have any serious injuries that day. She has since been in conversation with city officials to make sure nobody else gets hit.
They have since removed large shrubs from around the crosswalks, to allow for better visibility. Kippenbrock told us the city also has plans to repaint many of the lines marking the streets.
She would also like to see some changes that could slow down cars.
“I think the benefit to a raised crosswalk or a speed bump would be to slow traffic down a little bit. I think that is an important thing, just to control the things that we can control. There are many things that we cant and that is just one area that I think could help.”
