EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s office has 6 canines, but the stars today were Archie and Deputy Griffin Bush. They’ve worked together for nearly three and a half years
On Monday, the duo was presented with the Quarterly Catch Award by the United States Canine Association.
Back in November, Deputy Bush and Archie were called to a scene where a violent felon was hiding in an attic. While waiting to see if the suspect moved, Archie alerted Bush to a bucket filled with three and a half pounds of marijuana, without being prompted.
Sheriff Wedding says it was a job well done and an award well deserved.
“It is an acknowledgement that we are doing a good job. We have six canines here with the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s office and they are all out working hard every single day," said Wedding.
“But this just validates that we have done something above and beyond what they would think is standard police work or canine work. So we are proud of it and proud of every one of our dogs and our handlers, they work hard every day."
Deputies also found over $500 in cash that day, and Sheriff Wedding says it resulted in over $12,000 worth of drugs being seized.
