RICHMOND, IN (WFIE) - School officials held a news conference Friday afternoon about the shooting at Dennis Intermediate School in Richmond.
They thanked law enforcement and parents and discussed how the school is coping and moving forward.
Indiana State Police say this will be a lengthy investigation.
Troopers say shortly after 8:00 a.m. Thursday, the Richmond PD dispatch was alerted of a potential violent act that could occur at the school.
Officers from several agencies responded and a lockdown was put into place.
As officers arrived, they confronted a the 14-year-old suspect outside the school who they say shot out the glass of a locked entry door to the school, and ran inside with police officers in pursuit.
Troopers say the suspect, once in the school, exchanged gunfire with police officers. They say the suspect died result of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. No one else was hurt.
School officials and Troopers are still not releasing any information about the suspect, only that he was not a student at the time.
