EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - 26-year-old Republican Tim O’Brien has announced his candidacy for Evansville City Council, representing Ward 1.

Independent Councilman Dan McGinn is currently serving Ward 1, but announced he will not run for reelection.

O’Brien is a Real Estate Broker with F.C. Tucker Emge REALTORS. We’re told he is set to serve as Southwest Indiana Association of Realtors President-Elect next year. O’Brien is also involved through Southwest Indiana’s Young Professional Network, serving as the 2018 chairman.

O’Brien’s formal announcement will take place on Tuesday evening, December 11, at 5:30 at Thai Papaya Cuisine in Evansville.

We contacted Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke about O’Brien’s plan to run as a Republican in the First Ward.

“I am very excited about Tim’s candidacy and hope he has no primary opponent. He’s a bright young professional with a great deal of potential," Republican Mayor Winnecke said.
