EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - The Christmas holidays can be tough for struggling Tri-State families. The Boys and Girls Club of Evansville are hosting a special food drive that aims to help both the hungry, as well as the kids that attend the club.
Each kid that brings in a canned food item and donates it to the Tri-State Food Bank gets credit that they use to pick out a Christmas gift for a family member or friend. The more food they donate, the more items they are allowed to choose.
Volunteers help the kids shop for items as well as wrap them. Organizers say it’s very important to them to help during the holiday season.
“You know, to see their eyes light up as they pack their packages as they’re taking them out the door. It only happens here. I don’t even know how to explain it. I mean it’s different you know? Especially at my age when you have all you need okay, you don’t need nothing else but to see the smile on their faces, it’s priceless," explained Shirley Baker of the Boys and Girls Club.
The food drive will continue through the week.
