Owensboro commission votes to start entertainment district process

Owensboro commission votes to allow entertainment district

OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) - Following a 20 minute discussion, the commission has come to a decision on a possible entertainment district.

The entertainment district would allow for people to bring open containers outside of restaurants through the majority of downtown during specific special events.

One concerned mother argued that she doesn't want her child near alcohol.

The commission discussed for over 20 minutes, with public comment for and against the entertainment district. The commission voted and Bob Glen was the only to vote no.

Initially, the commission wanted to revisit the amendment to possibly exclude Smothers Park. The entertainment district will already exclude the playground at Smother Park, Shelton Memorial, and any religious area in the downtown area.

The next step would be to apply for the EDC license through the state, which can be a rigorous process.
