Neighborhood Watch: Evansville, Henderson police make arrest in car thefts

(WFIE) - An Evansville man is in the Vanderburgh County jail accused stealing cars and a coin machine.

The Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office says 32-year-old Justin Steele stole the coin machine from Royal Car Wash on Pearl Drive last month.

Investigators say they have a video of Steele wearing mechanical gloves, prying and pulling the coin machine from the wall, and driving off with it.

In the process, they say he destroyed the machine and the wall. The owner of the car wash says he got away with $2,000.

During their investigation, deputies tell us they discovered that Steele had stolen two cars.

Henderson Police are working an auto theft too. The department told us someone broke into Performance Auto Sales and stole electronics, cash, and keys. Then, a 2007 Jeep Wrangler disappeared off the car lot on South Green Street.

Police later stopped that vehicle and arrested the driver, Christopher King, and took him two jail. Two other people in the jeep were released.

Crime prevention experts tell us knowing your neighbors and looking out for each other is a powerful crime-fighting tool. And why not spread a little Christmas Cheer while you're at it.

The South East Side Neighborhood Association in Evansville is hosting a Christmas Dinner on Thursday night.

It's at Covert Avenue Baptist Church from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The dinner is free and kids 12 and under will get a Christmas Present.
