$200k grant to help improve Evansville foster care

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - A new grant is helping improve foster care in Evansville.

The Villages received a $200,000 grant from the Nina Pulliam Charitable Trust. The money will help outreach efforts and bring in new foster families.

Funds also will support existing foster families by paying for items not covered by traditional foster care reimbursement.

“It does hold a lot of people back when they find out how much it is to put a child in daycare especially when we have more and more working foster families, so hopefully this will help recruit and train more foster parents and not let the financial side of things to not hold them back from becoming a foster parent,” Director of Admissions Nicole Schultz explains.

More children are coming through foster care due to substance abuse and mental health issues in the family.
