EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - Evansville Water and Sewer Utility is moving forward with its next project to improve water quality in the Bee Slough area. The Sunrise Pump Station is the second of seven projects in the overflow control plan.
It will pump the treated wastewater into the Ohio River. The current pump is behind Bee Slough and cannot do that.
The new pump will replace Kids Kingdom.
“Mickey’s Kingdom was built on purpose to be active and to allow the public to still have a playground downtown in advance of this construction. We moved the playground out of the way. Mickey’s Kingdom was born,” says Deputy Director of Utilities-Engineering Administration Mike Labitzke.
Kids Kingdom will go away in the spring when construction begins. That is expected to take two years.
The project will relocate Waterworks Road and move the intersection with Veterans Memorial Parkway a third of a mile south.
